That may be the case, but my impression of Scenery predates the /r/jazz circlejerk. I listened to it six or seven years ago when I was clicking on random Japanese jazz albums on youtube, and I found it wanting. It's not terrible, but it's not very interesting to my ear either. The attention it gets (relative to other piano trio albums of the same style and era) is not really warranted. In my opinion, of course. Your mileage may vary.
From my POV as a non-jazz guy it sounds a lot more accessible to my ears than most other jazz. Most jazz (and classical music) sounds like a random barrage of notes to me with no focus whatsoever...

Not necessarily a huge fan of this album, since I'm not a jazz guy, but it does seem more like jazz for people like me who don't otherwise like jazz much.
That's been cool on /r/jazz for... well, since the last time I saw it posted there (years ago) :P. If I was looking to listen to something vaguely in this style, I'd turn to some classic Oscar...

I like this as a background record. Not a 'this is unbelievable' like the Special Sound Series or a lot of other stuff -- especially once we get into citypop :)
I might be the only one who actively sought it out lol My theory is that the wave of lof-fi hiphop mashing with a 'Japanese aesthetic' made something in Google's algorithm screwy. I feel that...

My theory is that the wave of lof-fi hiphop mashing with a 'Japanese aesthetic' made something in Google's algorithm screwy. I feel that several of the songs in the album match that vibe.
With all that being said, it is a fantastic album - one which I would urge you to listen all the way through once, even if you're not a big jazz fan.

YouTube would constantly and inexplicably try to recommend to
you, bloup.
Alphabet, Inc. knows us better than we know ourselves.
inexplicably
yes, that's the way in which machine learning works : the results it produces are not humanly explainable, and neither do they need to be. Only the result counts, which is the efficiency of targeted advertising.

Is it me or is the cool thing nowadays to dislike this album?

If I was looking to listen to something vaguely in this style, I'd turn to some classic Oscar Peterson, or some Ivan Boogaloo Joe Jones if I wanted that balls-to-the-walls swing.
But hey, if you dig it, more power to you!
Years ago? It's posted on /r/jazz at least once a month. Sometimes multiple times per week.
Well, you're assuming I've been to /r/jazz in said time period, lol.

IMO, it's reasonably likely it's something one of these
