I decided to give Spotify's "Discover Weekly" playlist a listen. I used to listen to it a lot, but it was a lot of time/effort to only come away from it with only a few new Liked songs. But anyway, gave it a shot yesterday and the same thing happened, but here's what I added to my Liked songs:

    • "Rock Lobster" by The B-52's. A weird little classic that I'm surprised wasn't already in my Liked songs.
    • "Pure Morning" by Placebo. Another song that I'm aware of, love, but just hadn't come across it on Spotify before. Although I can't shake this feeling that I'm more familiar with a cover of this song than the original. Something about the overall sound feels off to me, but all of the covers I found on Spotify sounded even more wrong.
    • "Tropicana" by Ratatat. I really enjoy their music. I'm planning to do a more thorough listening at some point. But as of right now I really love "Tropicana", "Cream on Chrome", and "Loud Pipes"
    • "Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five" by Wings. I thought for sure this was sung by someone other than McCartney, but nope it's him. Just doesn't have his characteristic sound in this song, but it's a fantastic and catchy tune.

I love Ratatat! I got to see them live a few years ago, and they were an absolute riot.

Various things by Sevish. I found out about this dude a few years ago because I'd been curious about microtonal music and downloaded a Scala tuning collection he made. I hadn't known anything about him until last week when he popped up on Spotify. I was surprised at how conventional his music is, because a lot of the time when I see people on the fringes of music they tend to make these incomprehensible compositions that are, more often than not, discordant drones. Sevish is just out here making more or less conventional electronic music with different scales. His album "Formless Shadows" is an ambient album, but it's musical and melodic, instead of just an experiment in tonality. His albums "Harmony Hacker" and "Rhythm and Xen" are somewhat more conventional albums for sure.
