He is either going to end up not guilty of anything and it does not matter at all, or he ends up found guilty of (pick any number of things) and he is already looking at facing whatever the punishment is for the rest of his life.

In his shoes, the phrase "in for a penny, in for a pound" definitely applies.

I think he just can't keep his mouth shut, and doesn't care about anything apart from his own ego and reputation - such as when he gets to tell a fellow billionaire about the important things he knows.

I agree with you. Trump has consistently demonstrated that he has the emotional regulation skills and discretion of a toddler. Trump could have had a very nice life with his crimes and fraud undetected and many many golf games had he not run for president. Nixon took a deal to leave public life and stay quiet. I believe the powers that be would have preferred such a deal for Trump to our current circus, but Trump is not capable of staying out of the public eye. He thinks it, he feels it, he blasts it to social media. Full stop.

But it has been illuminating to watch a republican president demonstrate that he has zero political loyalty to the United States, nor concern for its secrets or intelligence agents. Everything is for sale with Trump. Everything is fodder for his eternal quest to feed his narcissistic needs for recognition and prominence.

I find it ironic because the Republican party had marketed themselves as the party that had greater support for the military in the US.

It was an interesting time when they would either fully support America's imperialistic/nationalist military tendencies, or consider the entirety of the armed forces to be traitors on a week-by-week basis, depending on whether or not they pissed off Trump recently.

I just don't think Trump considers his actions and their consequences in the way that the previous commenter implied.

I am in agreement with you. My point was that there is functionally no reason for him to start considering potential consequences now.

As Carlin said, "garbage in, garbage out". We get what we deserve as a society. The US has spent half a century or more slowly eroding and dismantling all social and educational programs that helped us grown and better ourselves. We are now living in the republican dream/hellscape that Ronald Reagan and other authoritarians envisioned and people like Trump will never truly be held accountable.

If Donald does go to prison it will be a sacrificial lamb to appease the public and will allow business as usual to continue in the public and private sector.
