First thing I thought of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IDmSnD2pzc
Would love if the royals would just sort of fade away.. monarchy has no place in a modern world, in my opinion. But unlike the recent British throne change, this coming king Frederik is widely loved so I assume we're in for another few decades of nonsense.
Apologies for the negative/pessimist tone in this comment but eh.
I've lived in the Commonwealth my entire life and I quite like the monarchy. You can think of them as a sort of team mascot, really, and they bring in far more tourism dollars than they cost. And they don't really do anything that hurts the country any more than particularly bad politicians do. My favorite kind of monarchies are ones that don't have any overt political power; my least favorite kinds are de facto dictatorships with someone "elected" at the top who runs the place as if they are the monarch.
What's the harm in having constitutional monarchies kick around?
I'm pretty sure the point about tourism money has been debunked? Do correct me if I am wrong though.
Monarchies like ours are probably not more harmful than what corrupt politicians get up to. But it reprehensible that some people are born into incomprehensible wealth despite doing absolutely nothing to deserve it. Generational wealth is the worst of humanity and yes, that goes for very rich non-royal people too.
I just watched her televised speech, which is a Danish tradition - she gives a speech every NYE, and most families gather around the screen to watch every year. This year it was obviously extra exciting 😀
Oh so cool! I miss our Boss Lady (QEII) already.
What do you guys think of your new King?
I think most people are positive. He's relatively young and both he and his wife are very popular. I personally think monarchy should be abolished, but since that's not what's happening this time, I think we could have done worse.
