Offbeat Fridays – The thread where offbeat headlines become front page news
Tildes is a very serious site, where we discuss very serious matters like wikileaks, windows.11 and dishwashers. Tags culled from the highest voted topics from the last seven days, if anyone was perturbed.
But one of my favourite tags happens to be offbeat! Taking its original inspiration from Sir Nils Olav III, this thread is looking for any far-fetched offbeat
stories lurking in the newspapers. It may not deserve its own post, but it deserves a wider audience!
Escaped pet donkey found 'living best life' with elk
BBC News – Rachel Looker – 22nd June 2024
Like most pet owners, I walk around taking good care of them thinking am the only one that can do it right and then I read this article. Good for donkey.
I have been hearing about this all week and I'm happy he's out there living his best life.
Giant sinkhole swallows the center of a soccer field
I've been in soccer overload and loving it! Copa America, Euro 2024 and then I see this. The fields may not be in great shape for Copa America but at least it's not doing this; it opens a whole new fear factor.
Genuinely terrifying given how rarely we know where mines are/were. I know the percentage of time fields are empty has got to be higher than when they're being played on, but it's still very fortunate that no one was on the field.
It's a bit crazy, in a town here in northern jersey, this happened just recently as well.
Toddler nearly falls into large sinkhole
Wow that is terrifying
