But one of my favourite tags happens to be offbeat! Taking its original inspiration from Sir Nils Olav III, this thread is looking for any far-fetched offbeat stories lurking in the newspapers. It may not deserve its own post, but it deserves a wider audience!

    Italy: Garbage workers help woman find €1 million jackpot

    A woman who won €1 million mistakenly threw her lottery ticket in a trash bin in Bitonto, southern Italy — prompting her local sanitation company to launch an hourslong search.

    After SANB was contacted by the woman, the garbage company moved quickly to reconstruct the journey of the ticket, Toscano told AFP. They were able to identify the correct truck and stopped it.

    Combing through collected trash would pose the risk of potentially dangerous material in the waste, so the vehicle was taken to a special site equipped to do the search, Toscano said.
