Previous discussion of Bolsonaro on Tildes here when just over a week ago there were massive protests against him in Rio de Janeiro - https://tildes.net/~news/6y3/massive_protest_against_fascist_presidential_candidate_bolsonaro_in_rio_de_janeiro_brazil

For anyone interested in some shocking background on this man, who is in favor of dictatorship, here is the John Oliver video segment on the matter.

It's really frustrating that right-wing populism is an apparent issue for Brazil, which I had no idea about until last night. I also find it frusturating that the supporters of these candidates are by far the "problem child" when it comes to online discussion. That post and the commenters in that post were there to shill their awful candidate, not for any reasons related to Linux/Unix.

Any indication that this is part of larger orchestrated efforts to install far-right leaders in democracies worldwide?

aside from the usual linkage to people like steve bannon, this seems to mostly just be brazil's right-wing populist moment--the obvious, glaring problem with that being jair bolsonaro is about a half a step removed from being an actual, legitimate fascist and isn't just a right-wing populist like most of the people and parties who have been elevated by the populist trend around the world. i'm sure there are plenty of people who might otherwise be inclined to give him a hand rooting for his victory though, since it'd be by far the largest victory for the organized right-wing populists/far-right in recent memory.
