aside from the usual linkage to people like steve bannon, this seems to mostly just be brazil's right-wing populist moment--the obvious, glaring problem with that being jair bolsonaro is about a half a step removed from being an actual, legitimate fascist and isn't just a right-wing populist like most of the people and parties who have been elevated by the populist trend around the world. i'm sure there are plenty of people who might otherwise be inclined to give him a hand rooting for his victory though, since it'd be by far the largest victory for the organized right-wing populists/far-right in recent memory.
