If this passes in Maine, that gets them from 189 to 217 of the required 270 votes to make the interstate voting compact take effect. This seems like a step in a good direction in my opinion, as I feel the electoral college is an outdated institution and that a national popular vote is more appropriate for electing the president.

How do you figure? Maine has 4 electoral votes. This gets the 189 to 193.

Back when I lived in PA my state senator wanted to get this bill passed but there wasn't the support he needed to bring it to the floor. Maybe one day.

This further strengthens my thoughts that Maine is going to be one of the most interesting states to watch in the next 6 years. Maine is an incredibly white state that polls and votes generally in favor of liberal policies (expanding medicare, passed medical, etc) (yes I know these poll well across political parties, but only one party actually tries to pass them, so they are liberal policies), they passed this and RCV, and then had fucking LaPaige and Collins as some of their reps, along with one of 2 Independent senators in Angus King (I always type Steven King the first time. WHOOOPS). I never fully know what they're going to do! It's always a fun game. I'm curious to see if they continue what feels like a general shift towards Democrats, or if they just start electing Republicans who are less the fucking worst and then get confused when policies citizens like don't get passed.

This is going to be real fun the next time a Republican wins the popular vote, and the compact states shit their pants because they threw their electoral votes to the popular candidate.

The next time a Democrat loses the popular vote but wins the electoral college will be the first. And I don't think this is necessarily a partisan thing anyway. I detest the GOP, but I, and I'm sure most other supporters of the compact, think that if a republican gets a majority of the votes, they should be president.
