I'm glad no one had a camera and a tape recorder when I was a teenager and in my early 20's. Honestly, the only people that I know who are about the same they were in 2001 are the ones who never got over being complete idiots. The vast majority grew up, grew wiser, shaped up.

Heraclitus comes to mind (“You could not step twice into the same river”).

Ah, in that case, fair enough. I didn't see that timeline.

That's a great line and totally out of keeping with the tone one might have hoped to see in someone who recognized why that wasn't good.

Eh, I think it's fine. I appreciate the self-deprecation humour throughout our politics.

He issued an apology and understands what is wrong. He even provided another occasion when he performed in blackface, as part of his apology to show that he understands exactly what was wrong and can identify other occasions where he sees it's wrong. He didn't even try to justify that it was marginally because it was a stage production.

Then he took questions, and answered them. One of them was kinda funny. I say stuff like that when I'm nervous and ashamed. I don't think Trudeau of 2019 would ever do something like this, I doubt anyone does. Meanwhile, the Conservative leader refuses to recognize what happened to Indigenous peoples in Canada as genocide right now even though the UN agrees it is, I'm way more mad about that.

Oof. This'll be fun to watch... as if conservatives needed another way to tear down the left...

I have problems with the article. Which is utterly useless garbage.

I was originally going to post the NYTimes coverage but realized that TIME was actually the organization that broke the story so I decided to share the original source.
