They're not the first to do car protests and they won't be the last. There have been a few car protests in Ann Arbor in the past week demanding things from U of M and the U of M hospital. I think we should be careful about demonizing that specific form of protest, as it's one of the few options we have left for peacefully assembling. Of course, stopping an ambulance from getting through is obscene in these times.
This particular protest started in Howell, MI before heading to Lansing. Howell has been a hotbed of white supremacy & KKK activity for a very long time, and so has the rest of Livingston County. I grew up near there and can confirm that it's full of exactly the type of right wing shitheads you'd expect from seeing these protests.
