    Doing things like this drives my brain wild. I've always wanted to know just the minimum amount of information you could include in the address of a letter with the hope that it'll still arrive.

    I am so glad to hear a story about someone doing such a preposterous thing.

      I think it depends where the letter is being delivered. I have family in Appalachia (US), and at least until seven years ago (haven't posted a letter since then) I could put their name, town, and state, and it would be delivered. I always thought that was pretty cool and intentionally sent mail that way.

      When we moved to Maine, our boss-and-friend Ivan said that he'd gotten postal mail addressed to "Ivan 04627." So this doesn't freak me out at all.

      The only time the mail didn't reach him, he said, was when a local post office (e.g. the one in Phoenix) returned the letter for insufficient address. Deer Isle's post office had no problem with it.
