I won't actually remove this, but in the future, please try to submit news that's about significant events, not just intended for amusement and/or mocking the subjects. None of our lives will be affected by this event, other than getting to feel smug for a moment about the hypocrisy involved.

While the headline is definitely eye catching, there are a couple of weighty issues worth discussing.

The first is separation of church and state in the USA. The police "arrested the group on accusations that they were having intercourse in a publicly visible place." Yet the passerby only noticed lights on, and only saw the intercourse after "Peering through glass doors and windows." This is relevant in light of upcoming USA Supreme Court changes.

The second is Archdiocese's quick response to this scandal, but their slow response to child abuse.

The archdiocese announced it had suspended Clark from ministry the day after he was arrested.

The arrests mark the latest scandal to befall the Archdiocese of New Orleans, after a different north shore priest, the Rev. Pat Wattigny, reportedly disclosed on Oct. 1 to Archbishop Gregory Aymond that he had sexually abused a minor in 2013. Aymond removed Wattigny from public ministry last week and added him to the archdiocese’s list of clergy whom the church believes have been credible accused of molestation.

Would you consider it reasonable to be arrested for public indecency if you were having sex in the privacy of your own home, visible only if a passerby happened to wander onto your property and peeked through multiple windows?

I dont see the slow response, it seems the Archbishop reacted the same or next day.

That makes sense, especially here, but OTOH exposure to stories like this is important for visibility to people who otherwise might not see it. Especially given the political power these hypocritical organizations wield.

Sexual abuse from the Amish community for example, is in much the same vein, and exposure is important to de-romanticize these communities and bring justice/reforms.

Perhaps we could replace with a wiki page with a counter and additional news story.

I wish I could disagree because that’s so amusing, but yeah, you’re right.

Police said the charge stems from from “obscene acts [that] occurred on the altar, which is clearly visible from the street.”

I'm going to go ahead and call BS on this and I hope it doesn't stick. This is the view from the street, both from other photos in the google maps listing and from photos in the article you can easily tell there's no way in hell any of the "obscene acts" are "clearly visible from the street". Some uppity religious party pooper got their panties in a wad that someone was getting their rocks off, nothing more.

Y'know, at least they were all consenting adults. I hate that that's the level of silver lining we're reduced to when it comes to Catholic priests and sex acts, but it's so much better than it...

That’s gotta be a very specific kink. Altars are not that comfortable.

A good time is a good time, but the hypocrisy is huge. Maybe let's stop with the sex shaming and anti-birth-control crusades?
