I was rather hoping for a more neutral ENSO - a strong El Nino is going to make for a bad bushfire year in Australia. After a few years of more rain than usual there's a lot of grass and vegetation out there so a hot dry summer will result in high fuel loads for any fires.

I saw a BoM long-term forecast the other week. Australia, across the country, is looking at a milder and drier winter. I assume that's related this upcoming El Niño event.

And, if that continues into Summer... well, we don't need another round of the bushfires we had only 3 years ago.
