I'm really surprised Chronic Wasting Disease in deer wasn't mentioned in this list. Though I feel it's something more widely communicated in rural areas with a hunting culture due to hunters needing to be more mindful of their practices to prevent spread. The CDC's description is pretty tame compared to field reports; they're literally referred to as zombie deer due to how crazy they act. It's basically the Mad Cow disease for deer, moose, and elk.

A few years ago it seemed to be spreading across the United States and my University's Deer Lab was putting out constant messages for hunters on how to report sitings. The behavior exhibited can sometimes be confused with rabies, but if you have heard or seen a deer acting weird there is a chance they has CWD.

It's been a while since I've been hunting and I only saw this in person one time, but I'm also shocked it wasn't included. The older guys in my grandpa's group had some horror stories about dead deer walking. They were kinda superstitious about it and said they burned the bodies if they killed one. I have no idea if that's the right thing to do but at least nothing ate it.
