In my case I moved in with my mother, and followed her to stay in a small room in a hospital for 3 months until she died. It was not love, just the right thing to do.
Just saying, we don't know why he did that, but his pathos in the world could also make him (and Claude) invite her to their home because it's the right thing to do.
