If I’m understanding this correctly, scientists were basically able to reverse engineer things as far back as they could and ended up with two possible models that co-evolved? They didn’t have a full metabolic system like we do (turning that hamburger into go juice for our muscles) that reset constantly. So it wasn’t something that could fully support itself?
One of the most interesting things about all this is how we even define what “alive” means. Obviously it’s different than “consciousness” but it has the same nebulous problem in that that we can’t even agree on a definition.
