I was really hoping to see something about zombie metabolism. Attacking people obviously requires energy that needs to come from somewhere, so they need some kind of system that converts energy and transmits it to different body parts. But if the heart is dead, I don't understand how this works.
Max Brooks explains pretty much anything zombie-related, but nothing about metabolism. I'm beginning to suspect the whole zombie thing is not really viable.
Could be through consuming their own tissues, given how, uh, decomposed they tend to look. Human has the mechanism too, when being starved. Perhaps in zombies this system goes into overdrive,...

Virus zombies don't technically require a beating heart. Viruses are capable of locomotion without the medium they are in, blood in this example, also flowing via a heartbeat. What's to say a high enough viral load of zombie-virus isn't just moving nutrients provided by the brain eating around the body?
It's mostly Brownian motion, which isn't full on "locomotion" technically (they can't swim for example), but they don't require the medium to be flowing, just not solid and even zombies aren't solid.

Interesting! How does this work? I tried searching for "virus locomotion" but couldn't find anything relevant. Do you have a link?
