I love this just kinda assumed 'whelp, the insects are dying, guess there's nothing we can do but hope nature adapts' that so many seem to have. How about...we just stop using pesticides?...

How about...we just stop using pesticides? Cultivate some living soil? Create a safe place for bees? Replace 2/3 of all golf courses with untamed meadows?

My lawn is ugly AF, at least according to owners of manicured monoculture. You know why? I just let whatever grow, unless it isn't native to the area. I keep it trimmed, and it actually produces this neat cycle of different plants as one overtakes another after getting cut short. Bunch of native plants, purple, white, yellow flowers. Tons of honeybees, bumblebees.

For those of you in suburbia: If you've got any room at all in your yard, or against even a small wooded area...don't put out yard waste. Dump all your leaves, sticks, trimmings in a spot. If your soil isn't completely dead, some worms and other bugs will start taking care of it.

Last year I took several classes in pests. One was an identification class. Since the class couldn’t be in person, I had to go out and find and identify them on my own. So out I went with my camera and loupe to find them. I didn’t realize I had so many pests in my yard, they were everywhere. But what really floored me was how many predators I had! That’s why I rarely saw damage from the pests. Everywhere I went I could find pests, and I quickly learned that how much damage was done by them seemed to correlate with how much habitat was available for predators. That habitat is often places like your untamed lawn!
