    Some of this was new to me, like the proposal to transfer most of the land area (and every inhabitant except the president and their immediate family) to Maryland, and the constitutional amendment that would secure that family three electoral votes.

      Yeah, I saw this the other day and the electoral votes issue was a new one on me too - and a frustrating point, given that it's the only valid argument I can see against the otherwise entirely reasonable and pretty much indisputable case that DC residents need representation.

      I'd still come down on the side that disenfranchising 750,000 people is a much worse issue, and that the rest of the states can get their shit together and repeal that amendment once DC's representation is secure, but it is a legitimate point of contention in an otherwise very clear cut issue.
