    To me the most obvious use of this money would be a down payment on a car (or outright buying a car if the kid happens to be skilled at picking old used cars)

    I didn’t go to college right away at 18, and the biggest thing my parents did for me besides giving me housing was my dad sold me his old Honda and didn’t charge me interest on the very low monthly payment.

    Having a reliable way to get to work is make or break when you’re just starting out.
