Imagine trying to negotiate 100+ total-economy-spanning trade deals simultaneously; it would be a Herculean effort even during the best of times. Now imagine trying to negotiate them: with a mercurial boss that gives zero instructions, and after multiple rounds of layoffs have devastated the civil service.
My condolences to anyone that somehow still believes Trump knows "The Art of the Deal" and is playing quantum chess with tariff negotiations.
As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

This kind of thing is why people spend so much time trying to figure out Trump’s actions. They don’t make any sense from the perspective of trying to help the country.
So we end up with possible reasons such as:
Trump is mentally ill
He’s creating a fake emergency to get more power. This will culminate in martial law and suspension of elections
He is intentionally trying to cause a recession in order to let his billionaires buy up the country in a fire sale
He’s doing a pump and dump over and over again.
We have plenty of evidence that he’s not smart or competent. Also he is reckless and holds grudges. Also he’s a lifelong criminal who is involved with shady people, Russian spies, and pedophiles. And he’s currently surrounded by yes men and weirdos and the authors of project 2025. So I continue to be shocked that there are people who think that this is somehow for working people and will bring jobs back to the US.
Congress needs to wake the fuck up. I know some congressional republicans are either in support of what he's doing or entirely afraid they'll be voted out of office, but how long are they going to...
Congress needs to wake the fuck up. I know some congressional republicans are either in support of what he's doing or entirely afraid they'll be voted out of office, but how long are they going to let this go on?
(I know the answer is indefinitely. But it shouldn't be.)
Yes that is the whole point. Congress could end this in a day since they actually control tariffs. So this is not on trump, it’s on the Republican Party who refuses to control him and who could...
