There's a ton of reasons why going slower is better. Making the most amount of money isn't one of them though, which is why the tech bros and VCs always want to go faster. Many decades ago...

The logic might seem compelling at first: regulations slow us down, politicians don’t understand tech, wouldn’t it be better if someone who “gets it” could just cut through all the bureaucratic nonsense?

Many decades ago industry could move faster, there was less red tape, and it was easier to spin out a new product or process to jump in an emerging market. Now it's slower in a lot of the industries that it used to be faster in. Because people died, were exploited, experimented on, and otherwise suffered the "side effects" of greed treating people like commodities and faceless consumers.

I want my government to slow businesses down (to a point). I want them to ask questions, demand more data, verify results, enforce health and safety standards, and otherwise prioritize the well-being of myself and my fellow citizens. I believe that's a key part of government's responsibility. While I believe it should also be the responsibility of every commercial company as well, the capitalistic-driven economic incentives absolutely do not incentivise my well being over the drive to increase profit margins.

My high school world history teacher always said that the most efficient form of government is a dictatorship. I wish everyone had someone to teach them that.
