The Hungarian election seem to be in favor of the Tisza party. How different is this party from Orbán's Fidesz party? My limited understanding is that Tisza formed as a splinter of Fidesz so is it expected to pursue radically different political agendas or is it more of a course correction, but ultimately more of the same? Given Hungary's prevention of EU giving loans etc to Ukraine is this likely to change?

Hungary isn't suddenly going to turn into a pro Ukranian stalwart, but it's also not going to keep vetoing everything the EU does for shits and giggles. Magyar isn't a perfect candidate. He's on...

Magyar isn't a perfect candidate. He's on the centre right, has a few scandals of his own already, and has said some pretty Trumpian stuff on immigration. But beggars can't be choosers, and his 2/3rds majority give.him enough power to dismantle Orban's autocratic state.

For a lot of things, we just don't know. We expect for them to be better about, say, LBGT. But he didn't campaign on that, he campaigned on corruption and the economy almost exclusively. At the very least, it's the best hope Hungary has had in a very long time. If he can just reestablish a pluralistic democracy where parties from all over the spectrum can safely compete, that'd be ideal.

There's a previous discussion about what to expect from Tisza here: https://tildes.net/~society/1to9/prime_minister_viktor_orban_concedes_defeat_in_hungary_election. Still probably much more that...

There's a previous discussion about what to expect from Tisza here: https://tildes.net/~society/1to9/prime_minister_viktor_orban_concedes_defeat_in_hungary_election. Still probably much more that can be said though. All in all I get the impression that since Tisza is so young, noone really knows yet where they actually stand.
