The US really needs to stop meddling in other countries' internal affairs.
Neocons will never learn that backing coups that have weak domestic support create more problems than they solve.
I agree. It would be really cool if Russia and China stopped meddling in Venezuela as well. I just realized the other day that Russia is actually sending in additional troops.
I agree. Unless the host nation requests the help, all foreign meddling is a violation of sovereignty.
A-a-and you have just stepped into a murky pool known as “Who Is The Real Representative?”. Bashar Assad requested Russian help in Syria. Does this mean that Russian actions in Syria are now officially not-meddling?
The old orthodoxy in Latin American politics has been that their societies are broken into 3 factions. The peasants, the elites, and the military. If you have 2 of the 3 on your side you get/stay in power.
Maduro has the peasantry and the military. Unless the military shifts (which they might if foreign parties intervene) he’s staying.
Part of the domestic support is due to the US generally making it difficult for the country. The CIAs playbook has been enforce for years.
They don't care about those problems. Are natural resources being extracted? Job done.
It's all punishment for Venezuelans taking back control of their natural resources from foreign oil companies. Same thing with Iran. It's just extra stupid and pointless now since fossil fuels are on the way out.
