Ah, the headline made it sound more impressive than it is, my first thought is that the mission would get close to the sun (Which is extremely hard) but it will actually be orbiting at the Lagrange point 1. Still, really impressive and inspiring to see how the program is going, launching another mission only a short time after successfully landing on the moon.

I agree that Indian definitely is doing a great job and is surely engaging it’s people in the dream of space exploration. This second part is a weakness in other countries, where those stories are on the back burner. But I disagree with the characterization “whether the rest of us join or not”. You can find a list of active probes here. You’ll see that there are two other solar missions in the past few years run by NASA and the ESA. Rather than going it alone, they’re joining a large community that they can help make great discoveries.
