6.6 billion USD, or about ¼ of NASAs yearly budget. This fund is allocated for a period of 10 years. It doesn't seem that much to me in comparison, but it's better than nothing.

This is an additional funding measure specifically for the industry, outside of the standard funding to JAXA (their NASA equivalent), which previously was coming out of their direct budget. Their current yearly budget is ¥212.4 billion, definitely not NASA level, but substantially different initiatives and priorities.

Currently the government is subsiding JAXA for their private investments to the tune of ¥10 billion on the latest fiscal budget.
