I don't think the Angels 'wasted' the prime of Ohtani nearly as much as Trout. They were one of the teams that was actually willing to let him develop 100% as a two-way player, and in all likelihood he probably wouldn't be anywhere near the same player on almost any other team, especially after missing all of 2019 for pitching.

While there's no hard evidence, how does a team not commit to him being a full-time hitter-only at that point, with the possibility that he might do some time as a reliever, as well?

That Albert contract was a death knell for the organization's hopes to surround Trout with actual talent.

The Angels can absolutely move Mike Trout - there are a lot of high-payroll teams that can take him on. He would take on a huge return that could be the corner the organization needs to turn....

The Angels can absolutely move Mike Trout - there are a lot of high-payroll teams that can take him on. He would take on a huge return that could be the corner the organization needs to turn. Teams like the Yankees, Dodgers, Mets (hahaha), Boston, Texas, Houston, etc, can fulfill his contract and still keep their teams together. I also think the Angels organization is on the up and up and had some bad luck this year - just like Seattle.

Ohtani is going to sign elsewhere next year and be fine.
