Butterbean was never my favorite boxer or mixed martial artist, but I have been aware of him since his early Pride fighting days. And the segment with him knocking Johnny Knoxville out in Jackass: The Movie is a classic. I hadn't heard anything about him in years though, and had no idea his body was that destroyed. :(

This video is a bit cheesy, and basically an advert for the physical therapy program that helped him... but it's still well worth watching, IMO. It did my heart good to see Butterbean getting the help he needed, and coming out the other side much healthier and happier.

If you're not aware of the physical therapy program owner, it's Dianond Dallas Page, a "professional" wrestler with a very long career in the WCW and WWF. He found out about the benefits of yoga while recovering from injuries during his wrestling career.

He seems to have identified the massive benefit that yoga can provide to everyone, but probably has a much deeper insight than your every day person into the "just grit your teeth and bear it" method that many men use to "manage" their pain daily. I do think he's coming from a good place. He knows that yoga can help people and he also knows you can't convince a guy with leg or back pain to do anything about if the mental image their therapy conjures up is yoga pants and hippy girls in their 20s

I saw this video when it was first released a couple months back, and it definitely is 50%+ advertising. Its shot like a reality TV show and really just rubs me the wrong way about how all media has been for the last 2 decades or so.
But advertising a product that really can help people live a higher quality of life is something I'll give a pass.

Butterbean's story is absolutely a success, whether or not he ever fights again. And I'm happy if that success can inspire other regular every day Joes dealing with pain from their day to day construction or farming jobs to seek help in therapy methods they otherwise would have overlooked.

Oh, damn... The entire time I was thinking he looked and sounded remarkably familiar, but I couldn't place him. I totally failed to connect the DDP part of the channel name to Diamond Dallas Page when I stumbled upon the video in my recommended feed :P So thanks for providing that info. It's pretty cool that this is what he's doing these days.

I find reality TV shows really annoying too, so I know where you're coming from there. And they definitely used a lot of the same techniques typically used in that style of show in this video. But like you, I can also give it a pass when it's done in service to something actually helping people like this physical rehab program.

I didn't know who he was until reading this comment. I watched video first and thought it was going to a culinary piece about butter beans becoming popular again. :-) It was awesome he got out of...

LOL, yeah I can see how if you've never heard of Butterbean, the title would be pretty confusing. :P I edited it to hopefully help with that. ;)
