This guy has been controversial for a long, long time, and pretty much everyone is happy that he is now gone. And so the saga of the Spanish FA continues. I hope a movie gets made about this one day because the whole thing is just so crazy - highlights like:

    • Entire Spanish women's team and a lot of the staff going on strike/quitting their jobs until things change

    • Spanish men's team condemning Rubiales

    • A very large amount of foreign FA's and higher-ups condemning Rubiales

    • Rubiales' mother getting rushed to a hospital right before a press conference - this days after going on hunger strike in a church

    • Woody Allen coming out in support of Rubiales' saying it was "just a kiss" and "he wasn’t raping her"

And now you probably think: But wait, this post isn't about Rubiales? It is indeed about Vilda but he is likely only getting fired because of what Rubiales started with that forced non-consensual kiss on Hermoso. But Vilda absolutely deserves to lose his job (and imo, more) - here are some Jorge Vilda's crowning achievements:

    • Likely only having had the position as coach because of nepotism - most of the squad plays together in Barcelona and therefore barely need coaching. Word is he doesn't at all do (nor know how to do) his job

    • Using the same players too much to the point of injuries being a major concern

    • He was controlling and bullying and made players cry and leave training

    • Huge privacy breaches where players weren't allowed to leave their hotel, their bags would be checked and looked through, they were not allowed to lock their doors, they were checked on like children with curfews

    • Last year, 15 players made a written protest to the FA, but it fell on deaf ears and even after some came back, most of these were excluded from the squad as retaliation by Vilda

    • PS: This [TW] is how previous coach Ignacio Quereda treated the team. No wonder where Vilda more or less learned this behavior was ok
