Yeah, as a Canes fan, I've seen first hand what refreshed ownership can do for a team. I hope it all works out for them!

Curious what you mean by that? What effect does this have on future expansion teams?

Sets the bar high for the next round of expansion (Houston, Salt Lake, Atlanta, etc).

Well I certainly didn’t know all those details, thanks! I welcome expansion, especially in the south, as no one really watches hockey down here (Florida excused).

That's quite the chunk of change for a team that's struggled quite a bit over the past decade. Assuming it goes through, it would be the most expensive team sale in NHL history.

Pretty crazy that a "small market" team is selling for nearly 1 billion. Was not expecting to see a franchise sell for that much in the NHL unless one of a the big teams actually went up for sale....

Was not expecting to see a franchise sell for that much in the NHL unless one of a the big teams actually went up for sale. The Devils were bought 10 years ago for just $320M, and while they are a small market team they are in a big media market. I'm sure all the other owners are very happy to see this sale price.

Yeah, my initial thought was that the price was very high. Especially being a Canadian buyer and the price being in USD. But overall, I think Canadian teams are going to be worth more in US teams,...

Yeah, my initial thought was that the price was very high. Especially being a Canadian buyer and the price being in USD. But overall, I think Canadian teams are going to be worth more in US teams, even for small-market. The NHL doesn't seem to have any interest in expanding in to Canada, and they have a very passionate fanbase.
