    Given his bar clearance, Duplantis could probably clear 6.30 or even more. But he's going to do the Sergey Bubka special and keep raising it by 1cm at a time. I don't blame him for it; there's probably a lot of commercial incentive to do so, and nobody else is even close to his level. I'm just worried he'll get injured or something and then we might never get to see his full potential.

    In most sports, there's simply no practical way to deliberately improve the world record by the smallest possible margin, repeatedly. The only way to incentivize not doing it when it's possible to do so like in pole vault is for a challenger to appear, and that isn't looking likely to happen anytime soon.
