    Peru's Kimberly García thought she had smashed a world record by more than 10 minutes. It turns out the course was almost two miles too short.

      I was expecting the track distance to be off by like a meter. Maybe a few inches. Just enough to be like "Really? But it's soooo little!" Even though, admittedly, a centimeter off would likely be...

      I was expecting the track distance to be off by like a meter. Maybe a few inches. Just enough to be like "Really? But it's soooo little!" Even though, admittedly, a centimeter off would likely be an issue, since we're talking about the highest echelon of race walking.

      But not two miles! How does someone just lop off two miles from the course? That's gross negligence if I ever heard it. Really unfortunate for the competitors. Hopefully they have some recourse.
