I just did this in the post-midnight period of consciousness that started Friday morning, so it counts: I just solved a 5x5 Rubik's cube using this method to reduce it to a 3x3 cube, and solve it. A difference I do compared to him is I solve the 3x3 cube (or the 2x2 using the 4x4 method), then solve any out of place centers after everything's in place. It's just easier for me to think about. I've been working on this for two weeks, after spending two weeks on the method in the video, just when I'm chilling watching something on Netflix. The cool thing about this dude is he uses maybe three moves to solve any puzzle, and tries to adapt these moves to any puzzle. I'm not as interested in speedcubing (and forgot my 4x4 parity algorithm), so I'm trying to find more methods based on conceptual solutions than memorizing longer sequences of moves (like a 4x4 single-edge flip, which can be 16 moves). Next is some runs on 4x4 and 5x5, then I'll move up to 6x6 and 7x7, and maybe my 8 and 9 if I'm feeling super brave.
