A lot of stuff happened this week, it's been a rollercoaster.

I was planning on going to Monaco with a few friends for this weekend's F1 race, but those plans fell apart when 2 of them got sick and have to stay home.

I found a Witcher-themed bar nearby that makes a lot of good cocktails with dry ice, giving them a "foggy" look that looks really cool. The atmosphere is great, and the food is pretty good, too. I thought I found a place to hang out regularly.

Then, the big news: I got an offer from a company I interviewed with for a ridiculous sum of money. Not completely ridiculous compared to Big Tech salaries, but everyone I know is claiming I'm lying about it, so that's kind of an ego booster. The only real catch is that I have to go back to Canada to work for them, for reasons. The negotiation process seemed ridiculously easy as well. I think I bumped up my compensation by a large percentage just by asking for it and making a semi-joke.

It's kind of a shame, I was actually starting to like it here, what with the bar and finding a new social circle in the past few months, but the money is just far too good to decline.

Fuck it, I'm celebrating. This is the closest thing I've felt to excitement in a long time. Hard to believe I would have been satisfied with a much smaller amount just a short while ago, if they brought their original salary back up; this offer is over 3x that one.

You had me at Witcher Themed bar. Mind sharing the name? I'd love to check it out sometime. Congrats on the job offer! I hope it works out for you.

As for the job, I'm still awaiting details and results from a background check, so I hope that goes smoothly.

Oh man I had quite a week. I have been making a set of pendants with an encoded message from someone to their kids. The person in question is terminally ill and they're supposed to be a memorial/goodbye gift. They're a complicated design (the other parent is an artist and had a lot of input) and they were a lot of work - like 7-8 days kind of thing. I had them at the top of my work queue but I was going very carefully (and therefore slowly) to get them right. I was also going over everything 2-3 times to make extra sure they're perfect. I messaged the partner on tuesday to let them know they were ready. Two hours later they posted on facebook that the person had died monday night. They didn't get to give the pendants to their kids in person.

I know it's not my fault. I did my best and sometimes illness moves faster or slower and this kind of thing is unpredictable. But I still feel pretty bad about it.

Next week I'm going to be working on a close friend's wedding ring, which should be much more cheery - and the deadline is the middle of august.

Wow, that's really heavy. They might not have been able to give them the pendants but they put the whole thing in motion and I'm sure it'll be just as meaningful for the kids.

I've been volunteering at a flying trapeze place for kids. As a bonus, I get to train for no cost in the off time. This week I got my Split and Gazelle down well enough to be caught!...

This week I'm headed to see a client out of town to close out and get sign off on MY companies first project for a piece of software my partner and I spent Covid making (network automation tool). Feels good seeing something we've worked so hard on finally put to real use to make others lives a bit easier.

Been dipping my toes into the poly dating world here in Texas since moving here. Good gawd these apps are brutal! Poly bars really should be more of a thing here. =)
