What did you do this week (and weekend)?
As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their week. Did you accomplish any goals? Suffer a failure? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!
This week I've been losing momentum at NaNoWriMo. I basically completed the story on the 18th @ 30k words, which just left me to go back and add in a few chapters in places where I felt they were needed, and finally go chapter by chapter expanding on key points and fleshing things out. Compared to the artistic freedom of starting with just a blank page and a two-line synopsis, it's a lot harder to critically analyse and then slice-and-dice a chapter you've already written.
I'm probably going to fall behind this weekend, but I'll definitely get most of it finished by the 31st. If it's not 100% done, I don't mind, since I have the entire story structure on the page already and will definitely be over 40k words at a minimum. If I have a few chapters to rewrite and expand on in August, what harm?
This week has been crazy.
I installed all the gear I got last week: My wireless backup camera works great. Backup cams are also slightly overrated in my new-driver opinion, you still have to watch every angle while moving but it helps when I have a tight maneuver.
The dash cameras took all day, but it wasn't the cameras' fault. I bought an SD card with the camera set, but one of my readers fried it. I then went to Best Buy to get the right card, a reader, and a two-way port splitter because the monitor for the backup camera used its own plug, but misread the site and had to drive across the county to get it the SD card, which still came out cheaper than Amazon after calculating for gas. I'm really proud of the cable runs.
I made a run to a late-night dentist. I stripped wires for an electrical project when I was 15, and have been waiting 17 years for my lower incisors to self destruct. I was eating granola Tueesday night, was fiddling with a flax seed in my teeth, and felt something on my tooth after it split. It turns out I knocked a piece of my tooth off, and then spent an hour trying to find an emergency dentist, which isn't quite a thing. I found the only office in the tri-county area that was open until midnight and got the tooth bonded at 11pm, but it finally calmed down and doesnt feel funny anymore. It was definitely a weird experince, but I may come back to this dentist for checkups.
Edit: I'm also getting a passport. I work at an American firm, but we have international projects and I want to be able to say "yes" as much as possible. I'm going to the clerk recorders office this afternoon to submit my application.
I was just feeling like it didn't make my life that much easier, but it's definitely another great point to check when you're checking everything before moving.
