Went snowboarding and skiing!!! I snowboard about 10 times a year but haven't skied since I was about 7 years old. Man, what a lesson in empathy it was! I tend to be a bit of a yoohoo on my snowboard so it was alarming to see how frightening it is when someone whips past you when you don't know what you're doing. All in all I got to a comfortable level in the first day (skis in parallel during turns and blue runs) and promptly put my snowboard on for the next two days. Sunday was incredible!!! We got about 1-2 feet of fresh powder and the snowy conditions kept most folks off our side of the mountain. It was deep, gorgeous tree runs all day! My partner and I are both pretty competent in powder and were able to coax some less confident friends into the trees. By the end of the day everyone was whooping and hollering. Truly, truly magic. We arranged for another friend to pick us up at 3pm and it took everything I had not to creep away for another run. Man, I haven't had a day like that in years! We then got stuck in avalanche control for 3 hours on our way home and got back at 2am. I've been in bed 3-4 hours earlier every night since we've gotten home to recover. Definitely worth it!
