What did you do this week (and weekend)?

As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their week. Did you accomplish any goals? Suffer a failure? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!

I've encountered significant inertia/anxiety about starting my job search in earnest. I've been off work doing stay-at-home Dad stuff since July. I really love the time with my daughter, but finding part-time software development has been hard. I think part of it is that startup culture in the US expects Total Devotion, so a conversation about any upper limit on your hours per week is automatically a non-starter.

At the last place (a startup), I was the first employee, so I basically built the tech infrastructure for the company, as well as doing a significant chunk of the product development. As the company grew, I became a kind of "fixer": putting together critical demos, implementing complicated algorithms, interfacing with important customers. It's hard to communicate that kind of fluid experience on a resume. If anybody has suggestions (or knows of open remote roles) I'd love to hear about it.

On the home front, the Handegg (American football) playoffs are happening. We don't usually watch handegg, but my eight year old has been hearing about it at school and asked to watch last weekend. So i got out the OTA antenna and we watched the games together. Explaining the rules and watching game with her was amazing and fun. I'm not thrilled with the way the NFL treats players, which was why I stopped watching, so I'll have to figure out how to reengage with it due to her interest. But overall a big gift.

I know that procrastination struggle well. I need to revise my LinkedIn to support a planned career change but it keeps getting delayed because I am nervous to present myself in new ways, featuring experience from long ago plus new training.

The soft skills to support customers seem like they should be marketable
