What did you do this week (and weekend)?

As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their week. Did you accomplish any goals? Suffer a failure? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!

last night was the opening night of the show I'm lighting designer on! it's rona munroe's adaptation of Frankenstein and has been in the works since October. it had its ups and downs but last night went really well (especially considering a kind of disastrous dress rehearsal) and i was proud of mine and my colleagues' work.

For 2025 I set a goal to list at least one thing for sale on FB marketplace every single weekend. I was traveling for the first two weeks of the year, but figured that would leave me with around 50 remaining weekends, so I'd be getting rid of at least 50 things this year. This would do two things: get rid of stuff that I never use and know I should get rid of (which I have PLENTY of) and it would provide me with some extra cash which is always nice. Oh and it keeps things from going to the dump which is also a bonus. But really, decluttering is the main goal here.

I told my wife about this goal and she decided to join me in it, so that would be at least 100 things! And double the cash. She has a lot of old classroom and education items from when she used to be a teacher, and I have a lot of miscellaneous tools and tech stuff that I've just accumulated over time.

So last weekend I listed five items and I've already sold two at full price. And my wife sold something too! Bringing our grand total up to $65. If my calculations are correct ($65 * 50 weeks * wishful thinking = $$$$) then I should have enough to buy a yacht in 2026.

US federal employee, here. It's been a rough week -- as it has been for many of us even outside the government, I'm sure -- but I'm still employed and haven't been sent to camp for wrongthink (among other perceived "wrongs") yet, so that's a good thing, right?

If any of y'all have seen my past posts, you might know that I soured on this job before all this. I am still trying, I haven't given up entirely. I'm actually making some progress with things and trying to put myself out there at work, if you will.

Anyway, the previous week, I actually applied for a couple of positions with the VA (Veterans Administration). My dad works for them in IT, while my mom is a nurse for them. They both seem to like the VA. On Wednesday, I got a notice for one posting that said I was eligible for the position AND my application was passed on to the hiring manager!

That notice was immediately followed by another email that said "Oh yeah, Hiring Freeze, sorry." But it did also say that this is a true freeze: if/when the hiring freeze is lifted, the process will resume where it left off, and my application will still be considered by the hiring manager. So that's nice. But it's a fully remote position, and the way things are going with RTO in the government...who knows.

I found a few other jobs in the private industry that I need to apply for. One is actually a non-profit, which is what I'd like to go back to, as I spent 17yrs in non-profit. Unfortunately, even in DC, non-profits pay terribly. So haven't seen too many positions where I could maintain my standard of living (ie not be homeless). But that one I found would be doable, I think. It'd be a 16% pay cut if they paid me at the high end of the salary range. But I need to apply first.

Ignoring those gigantic elephants in the room, it's been a chill week. Haven't done much of anything else. Continuing to record my LP of "Metaphor: ReFantazio," which is fun. I'm taking it slow, but I'm enjoying it.

I managed to clean up my s*it in our living room. It was looking like makers/electronics lab in my corner behind our couch (which is in the middle of the room, not up to the wall). I managed to clean all that up.

Then I went on sorting CDs, DVDs and Blu rays that were all around the room on various places. There are only three piles now that are sorted by Jellyfin status - 1) done, 2) probably/mostly done, 3) untouched. I have to check pile #2 and do pile #3. Then all of them go to storage.

Fun fact: Did you know that bonuses on "I, robot" Blu ray are actually longer than the movie itself?
