What did you do this week (and weekend)?

As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their week. Did you accomplish any goals? Suffer a failure? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!

I sold some unused things ( still in the unopened boxes ) and gave some other things away via my local "Buy Nothing" Facebook group. Cleared up some space!

Got over some internal resistance and made an appointment with an orthopedic specialist to get a second opinion on a problem with my left knee I've had for several years.

Will get up early tomorrow ( Saturday ) for a parking garage rooftop tai chi practice session. Then I will get some spare keys made and take a nap. Then I will pull apart the many devices on my desk. Move said heavy desk to clean the floor under it. Then I will put a new stand for my PC, and some work laptops back on the desk - wiring everything up into a new KVM. Then reading. Then binge watching Stargate Atlantis.

I have until march next year to prepare. I haven't told anyone. I'm not even sure why I'm doing this but 🤷‍♂️

I don’t know anyone here yet so will be enjoying the solitude by working on finishing some creative projects.

I feel like all I've been doing this week is troubleshooting. Both at work and at home. I go to work, and I diagnose and troubleshoot. Which I get paid to do. Then I go home, mess around with my Homelab, and I diagnose and troubleshoot. Which I don't get paid to do.

And it's like simple stuff. Deploying a fresh VM. Trying to run a build script. Trying to use OCLP on an old Mac of mine. Trying to download a MacOS installer. None of it is working.

This is what I get for taking 10 days off work. The IT gods who live in the Cloud, are like, "Ha, you get DOUBLE, nay TRIPLE, the issues on your return!"

I did make some headway on one project at work, dealing with 802.1X. Which I've never deployed before, so that's good. Learning some things there.

But it's a bit frustrating that I keep running into errors and problems. As far as I can tell, none of them are necessarily my fault. Weirdness outside my control. Though that doesn't necessarily make me feel better. Because I'm wasting time trying to figure stuff out that I can't even fix in the first place. Oh well.

One big thing: This past week was my last week in my 1yr probation period. Technically I'll exit it on Monday, but I don't work on the weekends, and since I didn't get fired Friday, I now get more protections as a federal employee. Though we'll see how long those last. Should also get a slight automatic raise in couple pay periods.

Following up from my post from last week, I finally got the offer letter for the job I interviewed for 2 weeks ago! Super happy with this offer, it gives me the title/level upgrade I wanted and a 30% raise! I still haven't accepted it just yet but I'll probably do so later today and celebrate.

Besides that, I didn't too too much this week, I felt rather lazy at work given the news above and my manager was out sick for most of the week. I do feel a bit sad having to tender my resignation though. I've come to enjoy working with the people on my team and my org but all good things must come to an end I suppose.
