I really like this sketch and keep coming back to it, but have never felt that I really understand it. It seems to me that if anywhere is going to have a thoughtful take on the message of this piece, it would be Tildes. For this reason, I'm posting it here - all explanations and interpretations welcome.

Meta/Offtopic: This might have been better as a text-topic with the video as a link in it, and what you wanted to talk about regarding it in the title. A lot of people on seeing a Mitchell and Webb video from YouTube, even in ~talk might have assumed this was just fluff, and way less people read comments than will read a title and click the link. 90/9/1

TBH I am even struggling to decide whether to vote on it or not, even after having seen your comment, because most people probably won't see it.

Point taken. I posted this according to how I interpreted the instructions on the submission page:

Adding text when posting a link is not required, but it can help get the discussion started

This I took to mean that I should make the thing I wanted to discuss the link, and the starting point for the discussion the text / seed comment. Apologies if this was not the right strategy. While I read it often, I don't post on tildes much and as such am unsure of convention.

A simple post of a 2:30 minute sketch from a television sketch comedy show seems like something that belongs in ~tv... except that a 2:30 minute sketch from a television sketch comedy show also doesn't seem like content that belongs on Tildes in the first place.

If you want an explanation of the joke, you would have been better off making a text post in ~misc with a title like "Can someone please explain the humour in this video for me?" That way, people know from the start what the point of your post is, and don't mistake it for a simple comedy post. Burying your lead question in a comment could lead to confusion in a busy thread, where your comment gets buried under other people's comments.

IMO that suggestion is more regarding topics that don't necessarily require further conversation about them for it to be a "valuable" submission, e.g. news articles, studies, etc. A Mitchell & Webb video is kind of borderline fluff, so might benefit from having the purpose of it being posted made more clear in the title. But all that and my previous comment are just IMO, BTW.

So no worries... this isn't something that has really been established yet, so it's not like you broke any rules or anything. And even I am uncertain if my suggestion is the correct way to handle these sorts of topics. I was mostly just sharing my opinion and opening the floor to further discussion if anyone else wanted to chime in. :)

The manager is running a scam. There are no flamingos, but he's charging an entry fee to see flamingos - which the customers are not allowed to see up close. But, some customers decide to go check out the alleged flamingos for themselves... and end up getting seduced by the cocktails and conversation into becoming one of the alleged flamingos. Of course the newly pinkified flamingo's family wait for him to come back... at which point the dodgy manager charges them a higher entry fee for staying around.

      It's absurdist. It's not logical.
