What are you doing this week?

This is a place for ongoing discussion about the things you plan to do or have accomplished recently, even if that's nothing at all.

Or, if you want to just talk about how you're feeling, this is a good place to do that too.

You can find last week's topic here.

I'm working on my "three apps in three months challenge." The first app I'm working on is an app that combines time tracking and habit tracking named Percent Done. It allows you to set daily goals like "write for an hour" and track the time you spend on them, together with how many days in a row you have been working on a given goal.

I also recently bought a Breville Barista Express espresso machine, and I'm still having a hard time getting a good coffee consistently. I appreciate baristas and the little invention called "Nespresso" much more now. Making an espresso involves a lot of parameters such as beans, water temperature, grind size, tamping pressure, extraction ratio and time, and much more.

And lastly, I just made a Neapolitan(-ish) pizza at home after a long while. It turned out pretty well.

Not a standard consumer level one anyway. Other than that, the rest came from a good bit of fiddling around to get it right. But before the hand grinder I couldn't get anything consistent out of it.

I actually recently bought a second-hand Knock Feld2 hand grinder, which is supposed to be a decent hand grinder, as I was unhappy with the results I was getting with Barista Express' built-in grinder. But to be honest, I still don't want to believe that I can't get consistently decent shots using the built-in grinder because that would mean I wasted my money on buying the model with built-in grinder and that I need to hand-grind beans every single time I want espresso like I used to do and hate.

The demo of your app looks really nice and I like the idea. I could definitely put the app to use with some of my routines. I'll be keeping an eye on the repo, thanks for sharing it with us!

I'm trying to sell my condo. Tonight my girlfriend and I are going to look at an apartment to possibly rent. For the rest of the week I need to make fixes to our place.

Buy tickets and review my linguistics notes and books. I'll do three preliminary exams and three interviews at three universities in the coming two weeks and a half, none of which us in my city, so it'll take lots of travelling and hotel stays. It'll be fun and tiring. It will also be definitive: if I fail these, and maybe another one in August, I'll take a long break to work, put aside some money, lightly study, and live the fucking life a bit. Between family troubles and this effort, I've passed some of the best years of my life without having much fun; I want to compensate that, also I can't take more of this without a break anyways, both psychologicall and economically: the shoestring I was living on is really hurting now.

I don't know, from my perspective it seems like you're almost guaranteed to land somewhere, considering how far you got in the process at the first university. I wouldn't stress too much, because it seems to me like you're chances are pretty good and you seem to have a plan if things don't initially work out.

Good luck, and have fun with your travels!

I read you have some troubles with studies too, heavy workload. If I were you, I'd finish what I started—unless there's something really worthwhile to do during that particular stretch of time instead of that—b/c this stuff tends to pile up as you leave it for later. IDK how much downtime there'll be between the summer lessons & the actual Fall semester where you are tho. In my university we had huge summer breaks that lasted from early June till end of September, almost four months. If your Fall semester will start right away after the summer one, it might be worth it to let go of it to have some time to rest and have some fun. Either way, I wish you good luck with that!

I wanted to play with your tildes script, but I did not have any time, sorry. I'll go back to it after these whacky couple of weeks tho. This week (and probably the next one) I'll do the ~books thread on Thursday, and later maybe I try my hand at automating it using TAPS.

If I drop these next two summer classes and just move them to the fall semester, I'll have a seven week break between semesters versus a three week break if I keep. I'm leaning pretty heavily towards dropping them because I can always take classes during the 2020 summer semester as ten week classes (versus the five week crunch I just got out of) and not lose any progress towards my overall goal of earning a degree in two years.

Plus, I've fallen pretty behind on my tasks and organization these past few weeks and have lots of stuff I want to catch up on, so I'm probably going to drop.

As far as the script though, I wouldn't worry about it just yet. I'm going to be rewriting it over the next few days to just use Requests instead of Selenium and all this web automation stuff. Should make the script much simpler to configure and use compared to how it is now.

    "Study"

That's the word of the day. I crunched pretty hard and finished all but one of my architecture assignments last night and have all day today and until 5:00 PM tomorrow to finish the remaining fifty-seven questions for this mathematics final review. After that, I have to be at the testing center at 5:00 PM tomorrow to actually take the exam. I still don't know what my actual grade is, how the final affects our final grade, or what I'd need to make (if anything) to pass the class, but I'm working on figuring that out. Napkin math and a few assumptions tells me I have a B in the class, despite bombing the last test, and I'd only need to make a 40 on the final to not fail, assuming it affects our grade the way it does. That's not a very hard goal to meet, so I think I'm fine.

After I finish the test tomorrow, I'll finish the last design assignment for architecture and be done with these two classes. Then on the 8th I start my next two classes: Precalculus and English Literature II, which will run for one month until August 8th and be even more work, I'm sure.

Which leads into the meat of what I'll be doing this week, which is stressing out over how I should change my Summer II schedule, or if I should just drop this five week semester entirely.

On one hand, I want to drop it and just transfer the precalc and English classes to the Fall semester where I can take both of them online (because during the summer precalc is only offered on campus), on the other hand this would mean that I'd have to take Calculus II as a ten week summer course next summer, which might be even harder than precalc as a five week class and it also wouldn't be offered online.

No idea what I should do, to be honest.

No matter what I decide, I would like to use this five day break between summer classes to work on my script that posts topics to Tildes. General goal is to slim down the script, make it easier to configure, schedule, and run, and ditch Selenium and a web browser as requirements.

Also going to drop the other two summer classes I enrolled for and just transfer them to the fall semester because five weeks is hell and I've fallen behind on some stuff I want to get done.

Well unless something unexpected occurs, this week should involve a bunch of fishing on my families new boat. We have been wanting to buy something larger for a while now, but with some worrying future health prospects for my father we have decided it is time to just say fuck the debt and buy the boat so we can all enjoy it. We were supposed to be out last week but had some issues getting it set up and delivered.

    Digging holes!

Our big beautiful birch tree in our front yard died this winter, so we had a company come cut it down yesteryday - I need to do some research on how to stack wood to dry properly so I can use it for firewood in the future, and then we need to dig a big hole and chop out the stump of our tree so that we can plant something new in it's place! (we got a midnight chokecherry to go there.) on top of that, I also got a Saskatoon Berry bush and a Highbush Cranberry bush delivered with the tree, so I'm going to remove or move the Mock Orange in my front yard to replace with the saskatoon, and re/move a pink wild rose in the backyard for the highbush cranberry.

Then I have to screw up some courage to talk to my across-the-alley neighbour and ask them if I can rescue their abandoned raspberry bush out of their back alley and put it in my yard!

Why? because It's been about 1.5 years since I last did a full playthrough, so I think it's time for another.

And for anyone asking what Katawa Shoujo is, it's a visual novel, and you should play it ;).
