Very excited that I'm going to be able to run The Outer Worlds at full speed in 4K.

I was also contemplating running Linux and put Windows in a VM with GPU passthrough, but stories about anti-cheat flagging people for doing this have put me off the idea. Too bad.

I'm so jelly you can wobble me with a spoon. I'm no expert, but your config seems at least powerful. Is there a benefit to buying such an expensive motherboard? What kind of a difference does it...

Also, why just 16GB of RAM?

Good CPU overclock potential with this mobo, just pushed 9700k to 4.9Ghz out of the box, pretty sure I can do better with some tweaking. Also decent onboard WIFI was important to me.

16G is good enough for now, might upgrade in the future if I run into a bottleneck, got two more free slots, can push it up to 48 if needed.

GPU is a beast, everything runs so great, pretty happy with my purchase.

One thing I'm not too happy about is the AIO watercooler, the pump is just too loud even after messing with parameters, might just send it back and get a bit air cooler.

Also back to Windows worlds after 5 years, the OS is decent, but man, the amount of vendor crap you need to install.. AIO cooler needs an application to control it properly, ASUS pushes their app too, and had to install MSI's thing to tweak RGB on GPU. But at the same time I actually like the bling bling, might play with it to sync with my smartbulbs through Home Assistant. Will post pics later.

Does the on-board WiFi work like a router antenna, where you share your network with the rest of the area? 4.9GHz sounds like a goddamn minigun's worth of Hz. How far can you push it? 5.1? 5.2?...

4.9GHz sounds like a goddamn minigun's worth of Hz. How far can you push it? 5.1? 5.2? 5.5? 6? (You can probably push it all the way to 9GHz if you can use liquid nitrogen for cooling. I remember a guy pushing a Pentium processor from early 00s into doing something like 4~4.2GHz with that.)

You could try going the off-beaten path and installing Win 10 LTSC edition, where there's very little Microsoft bloatware to begin with. Not that you need that little extra boost, but it might be worth for keeping the system clean. Would probably need to update drivers on everything once you install it – LTSC is for low-tech, emergency-level devices and may not hold juice for your little fury – but it can be a minor boon for performance.

Overclock potential varies per CPU, some can go higher than others. Hence the term "Silicon Lottery", I've tried to push it past 5Ghz, but becomes unstable for me, so I've settled on 4.9 atm, might play with voltages later, but 4.9 already seems like a lot, yeah. I don't think I have an application to utilize this much of CPU power, but it's good for future-proofing i guess.

As for bloatware - it's not Microsoft who's the problem. It's every hardware vendor refusing to standardize their solutions like fan and RGB control. Now i'm stuck with 3 more apps in my tray (probably sending telemetry home too).

The current line-up is the first iteration of the club in the school, so we're excited just to get there and see how we'll perform.

My week-end technically started today, thanks to my four-day work-week. (In case you're wondering, switching to a four-day-er feels like it's one of the best decisions of my life so far. Or maybe I feel that way because the drugs have finally started working.) Today I did some paperwork and went to meet with my cousin, who is my only friend whose nerdiness level is on par with my own. We ate Italian, rode the Moscow Monorail, went for a walk, and we were talking programming, Unix and Post-Unix, general life stuff. It was great.

Tomorrow I'll probably finish some paperwork, write a draft plan for my presentation at "$COMPANY", do some calculations for my upcoming trip to Germany, and go to my German course in the evening. Oh, that also means that I am going to need to do my homework… Well shit.

Sunday will probably be the shopping day. Apparently a Skechers shop opened in a mall near me, so I have to buy at least one pair. Those don't last long at all, but while they last they are amazing. If you have a job where you have to stand or walk a lot, consider their Go Walk series.

I went for a walk in the woods, found an isolated spot overlooking the river with a bit of sun piercing trough the canopy, sat against a tree with some hot tee and listened to the stream bellow, the occasional dead leave falling from above and a bird that didn't notice me. I almost felt asleep, but it was a bit chilly, even with my coat on the shoulders.
