What are you doing this week?
This topic is part of a weekly series. It is meant to be a place for users to discuss their week.
If you have any plans, goals, accomplishments, or even failures, whether they be personal or work related, I'd love to hear about them. This is a place for casual discussion about your week, past, present, and future.
A list of all previous topics in this series can be found here.
So, what (or how) are you doing this week?
It's the beginning of my busy season! From now until the end of March it's all hands on deck to get everyone ready for tax time. The most demanding clients are already insisting on me using a time machine to have their finances ready to go for their tax return today (before the end of the tax year, even), and it's going to be busy for months as we make our way through the different reporting deadlines. I'm going to take New Year's Day off to go for a bike ride, as is traditional, but this is the season to buckle down.
Tomorrow is New Year's Eve, and I'll be ringing in 2020 by myself (not including the family dog).
I know some people would hate to be alone on New Year's, but I have to work and therefore will have no energy to go anywhere after 5pm. Besides, I spent Christmas by myself and it was wonderful.
As a gift to myself, I'm gonna turn the sleep schedule around, back to the time where I could wake up at 05:30 AM and feel fine. Which means I'm not meeting the New Year's arrival face-to-face: my hope is I'll sleep through it like a dead man, and not be woken up by two hours of fireworks that imminently follow the ringing of the Kremlin chimes. (It's traditional in Russia to measure whether the New Year is here by whether the massive clock on the Spasskay bashnya rang twelve times. It's transmitted across Russia via TV and radio.)
I will treat myself during the day, though. Gonna get myself some fast food from the Dodo Pizza place (where they have basically the best pizza in Russia), including the divine mango milkshake that they have. Walk for a few hours until my feet hurt, then come back and... I dunno.
The week's gonna be moderately-busy with personal projects. I'm gonna start fixing the bugs for Intergrid, write a proper changelog and a roadmap for it, extend the notes for the things that haven't begun yet, keep writing the first short story I'd written in years, and fiddle with the design for a game I'm slowly developing. A little something every day.
EDIT: I have indeed treated myself, and I have indeed consumed the marvellous mango milkshake.
Happy New Year, everyone! It may be hours away for you, but I'm finding my way into sleeping through it as we speak. Best wishes to everyone, and I hope this next year finds ways to make your life better and more jolly.
EDIT post-New Year: I was unable to sleep through the fireworks. They're fucking loud, especially when there's five of them going on at different intervals, distances, and intensities.
At least I slept well-enough.
Just another work week minus Wednesday (M, T, Th, F are my work days). My partner and I are going to a NYE party that her friends are hosting. Otherwise I'm not sure what I'll be doing. Probably some Minecraft with friends, which I got back into recently with them. We have a small server set up, and I'm playing around with mods to see what I like and what I don't.
After New Year's I'm going to get back into Scottish Country Dance after a short break. (There are fortunately no shortage of groups to dance with in my area!) I love this style of dance in particular because it's very geometric; the patterns that the figures create are just so lovely to see unfold with music in the background. My footwork could definitely use some cleanup, but I still enjoy the dances very much.
