What did you do this week?
As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their week. Did you accomplish any goals? Suffer a failure? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!
I mostly did a lot of IRC chatting ... and writing in my #1kaday challenge. If you want to read em, you can see em in my gemini capsule (http mirror).
Childcare. The Kid is normally in nursery 3 days a week but we've been isolating due to covid exposure so everyone is at home (no illness and today is day 13 so we're probably clear). After so long everyone is getting a bit tense and needing to go out - not only is the little one bouncing off the walls, the poor dogs haven't had a proper walk for nearly a fortnight. My wife works from home so while she's been working I've been managing the boy. I do enjoy spending time with him, but it is extremely hard work on one's own - normally we'll take it in turns or work together.
As a result I have achieved almost nothing else other than eat sleep play repeat. We did assemble a toy kitchen together yesterday, little guy had his first experience with Ikea instructions - also learned to use an Allen key and a camlock connector.
Quarantine lifts sunday at which point we're going to be out in the woods running around and getting tired - whatever the weather.
Stressed about the US election.
It looks at this point like we're going to pull out the second-best possible outcome: a clear, if slight, victory. (Obviously a landslide would have been ideal, but we're unlikely to see 2000-style drawn-out court battles or, god forbid, a clear Trump win.)
The whole past week has made me really wish states would not report preliminary results. The frequent substantial temporal bias in results just serves to confuse people (here's a truly heartwarming clip of certified shitheel who definitely should have known better Karl Rove arguing with Fox's election desk over this exact point in 2012), and fuels conspiracy theories.
