The Tildes' Make Something Month (Timasomo) 2020 Reflection Thread
Unless there are any remaining holdouts still waiting to enter their works in the showcase, Timasomo 2020 has officially concluded! I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.
While the experience is fresh, I want to gather some feedback for next year's Timasomo. Use this thread to identify:
- Positives
- Negatives
- Tweaks
- Suggestions
Basically, what should we keep the same for next year, and what should we change? Feedback is welcome from anyone, but in particular I'm interested in hearing from Timasomo participants.
Also, while I would be more than happy to run next year's event, I think one of the signs of a healthy community is when community events trade hands and leadership successfully. As such, I would like to be able to hand over Timasomo to someone else. You don't have to commit right now given how far away a year is, but just know that come October of next year I'll be seeking someone to take the reins. Let me know if you'd be interested!
I think it was great and you did an awesome job!
The only thing I'd change for next year, and probably only because my projects tend to occur on weekends and be a physical thing) is to move it to October. This has the advantage of next October being a five weekend month and the only holiday that can interfere with most peoples' plans is Halloween as opposed to a (hopefully relatively normal and healthy) Thanksgiving for the US participants.
That does mean it would arrive a month early in the event that others are preparing for next year's event and need the extra month to do so.
That's an interesting suggestion. I originally chose November so that Timasomo was backwards compatible with Nanowrimo, but it's also always bothered me that Nanowrimo has fallen in November, as that tends to be one of the "fuller" months for me. Given that Timasomo is not Nanowrimo no matter how shamelessly I might have stolen from it I don't see why we couldn't move it to October (or any other month, for that matter).
I'm interested in hearing what other people think. To anyone else in the thread: do you think Timasomo would be better served in October?
I think as long as any novel writers are on board, I would prefer it. I didn't see any novels showing up in the updates/exhibition, so I guess there aren't many?
Both years we've had some people enlist with intentions to do novels (or a similar wordcount challenge through a different format). Thus far no one has brought a novel to the showcase, but I also know not all participants choose to enter the showcase even in the event that they meet their goal. The people doing writing seem to take it more as a personal or private challenge, and, in the spirit of Tildes being a privacy-respecting site, I don't want anyone to feel obligated to showcase something should they not want to. In that way, holding to November does enable people like them to continue to participate.
I think it might be better shifted a month, even if it runs in with inktober, but it doesn't seem like there's many artists who participate here on tildes. October is definitely a less packed month, so I'm definitely in favor of switching it (plus it leaves November open for me to focus on gift making lol).
No obligation or pressure or anything like that, but I do think you are an excellent candidate to run it. :)
Or perhaps October commitments...
