What did you do this weekend?
As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their weekend. Did you make any plans? Take a trip? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!
I reconnected with an old acquaintance, and we went on a very chill bike ride and had a beer together. It was really nice getting to know her better, and hopefully we can keep the momentum going! Making new friends is hard, even when you have a head start like I do with her.
Friday I went to the first show at a bar I've been to in years. It was a trio playing rock-n-roll blues. They played a 30 minute set waiting for the late main act. The main act was so late, these guys played a second set to keep killing time and did an awesome job.
On Sunday I went to an open blues jam that ended up being a bit of a bust. It was a 4 hour event with a format of rotating the players every 15 minutes. I got just one rotation of 15 minutes, when I should have had minimum two, but closer to three or four, which other players did.
Saturday I picked up, hauled to the house, spread, and leveled a literal ton of gravel (my poor Honda Accord took it like a champ) in the backyard for the lean-to that's being added to the workshop that is split into two sections. A 10x10 storage space that'll house my big air compressor (so it's not in the shop itself) with lines run through the wall for air tools and the milling machine (I might put the sandblaster out there too to keep dust to a minimum inside the shop as no sandblaster is ever perfectly sealed) along with any other items I just need to store such as wheels for the projects, spare transmissions, parts, a three wheeled adult trike I bought for my wife a few years ago that she decided she doesn't like and I'm thinking about strapping an engine to and small wheels to make it a fun little three wheeled go kart, etc.
The other 10x10 section is a shaded hammock oasis for my wife; gravel set down to make it level, after the shop and lean-to are in place I'll build a wood deck over the gravel, install an outlet so she can charge devices as needed, and a lighting so she can read her books while hammocking. I'll probably use a ceiling fan for the lighting so she'll have the option for an artificial breeze on days when we're lacking a natural one.
Then went to a brewery that was having a popup by my favorite elotes spot and relaxed the rest of the day. Sunday I went to see Hamilton with my wife and mother-in-law. Great show.
