What "disinformation" would be happening post-earthquake? For those that would like a visual aid, the Anatolian Plate moved about 3.5 meters.

Turkey earthquake: Erdogan 'responsible for this' opposition leader says

Anger is growing in Turkey over the government's perceived failure to prepare after thousands died in two huge earthquakes on Monday.

The main opposition leader has blamed him for the scale of the devastation. But Mr Erdogan hit back, saying it was "not possible" to be prepared for such a big disaster.

Many in the worst affected areas have have criticised the response by the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) for being too slow. Others say the government was not sufficiently prepared in advance.

My area had an earthquake right at the start of the pandemic (literally the first week of lockdowns) and the spread of bizarre misinformation was downright voracious. In under an hour people were believing lies spreading on Facebook and Twitter that it was a precursor to an impending 9.0 magnitude earthquake which would strike within hours. This was despite the USGS and geologists at our local University being very quick to state that all their data was consistent with initial 5.7 quake being the main event.
