Especially going way back the Apple's System 6 days...the icons and UI designed by Susan Kare inspired me in ways Microsoft never could. Microsoft's design sense was practical and effective, while Apple's was beautiful. Yes, even, or especially, before the launch of OSX.
This is partly why I really appreciate projects such as the "chicago95" gtk theme. I have often considered using a theme like that for my desktop that I mostly use for games and emulation.
