Yeah, generally I don't like it when things phone home. There might be a market to parents of school age children. And the cool crowd might adopt it but I hope not.

To me, a better use for a smart/IoT enabled backpack would be able to recognize the items inside of it ala airtag. Maybe to help keep track of where kids school supplies are or perhaps load sensors to help you better pack when on a long hike.
Either of these would still have a pretty limited audience, though. Kids need to learn to keep track of their stuff without a smart backpack as a general life skill, and most people don't go for a long hike looking for more technology.

What a strange design, is the backpack just an information gathering device? I feel like if they overburdened it with hardware it would just be computing things that your phone could offload to a server somewhere. Also personally, I'm a little over the voice activated digital assistant or assistant that offers unsolicited advice and opinions, as my Pixel 4 did before I tweaked settings with it. Maybe people who use siri on a day to day basis may have more use for something like this, but a form factor like a camera or google lens style input device and a smartwatch for output seems more elegant than a talking backpack.

I would think this is for 3d imaging and mapping where cars can't go.
