    Reality check: Github has 100+ million repositories. The spike shows 4k repository imported and it is declining. It may be huge in Gitlab level but it is small in Github level. Never the less, I contributed to the spike, and not because of MS acquisition ;)

    I'm really excited for GitLab. It's only been a few hours and there's already this huge of a spike, now imagine over the next few weeks and months! Github is awesome, but I always found it ironic that it wasn't open-source, and after this acquisition, I'm not too hopeful for it.

    Unfortunately, most of the projects I contribute to are on github, so as much as I feel like this acquisition is going to be a bad deal for developers, I can't leave github. Someone on HN...

    Someone on HN suggested using a federation protocol to make something similar to mastodon for git. That could be interesting.
